This quick effect gives the photo a retro feeling.

Step 1: Color Balance.

Set the Color Balance to, without light intensity:

  • Shadows: Cyan-Red: + 49, Magenta-Green: -21, Yellow-Blue: -18
  • Midtones: Cyan-Red: + 19, Magenta-Green: 0, Yellow-Blue: 0
  • Highlights: Cyan-Red: + 45, Magenta-Green: + 8, Yellow-Blue: + 29

Step 2: Gradient fill.

Color: ff0000 (red) to Transparent

Set the Bleding Mode to Screen and the Opacity to around 35%

Step 3: Levels.

Set the Levels to:

Making one color stand out can be done in different ways in Photoshop. The simplest way is with two Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layers on top of each other.

Step 1: First Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer.

All shades, except red: set the saturation to -100

Step 2: Second Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer.

Set all shades to -100 saturation in one go.

Step 3: Paint.

Now paint on the layer mask of the 2nd Saturation, with a black brush, which must retain its color.

For this effect if you use another photo, you’ll have to paint on the layer mask again.

Step 4: Finishing Touch.

Set the Levels to:

This effect makes the photo cooler, with a blue feeling. Make sure you don’t use a photo with a lot of blue, use more contrasting colors. Again, make sure you use Adjustment Layers, so that you can apply the effect fast and easy on more photo’s.

Step 1: Levels.

Set the levels like this:

Step 2: Color Balance.

Set the Color Balance to this:

  • Shadows: Cyan-Red: -25, Yellow-Blue: + 23
  • Highlights: Cyan-Red: + 16, Yellow-Blue: -16

Step 3: Color Fill.

Use the color: #2284dc (C 78, M 43, Y 0, K 0) = Bright blue.

  • Set the Blending Mode to Soft light
  • Set the Opacity to around 80%

Quick Photo Effect: Red Haze

With this effect you can enhance your photo by giving them a red glow appearance, it gives the photo a warm(er) feeling. Use Adjustment Layers for this effect so you can replace the photo to recreate the effect on other of your photos.

Quick Photo effect: Forest Light.

With this effect you can enhance your photo by giving them a Lime green glow appearance. Use Adjustment Layers for this effect so you can replace the photo to recreate the effect on other of your photos.

Step 1: Full Color Adjustment Layer.

Original photo.

Color: Lime green (#91e0a9). Set the blend mode for this layer on Soft light.

Step 2: Levels Adjustment Layer.

Set the levels on: 36/1,25/255.

Step 3: Color Balance Adjustment Layer.

Set the color balance on:

  • Shadows: +5, -21, +16
  • Midtones: -28, 0, +12
  • Highlights: +11, +8, -9

Keep the light intensity checked on.
